THE IMPACT OF GOD FIRST INITIATIVE

On Monday, March 4, 2019, Burnet Barungi came home from school carrying some gifts. Among the gifts was some money totaling to 500 Kenya shillings.

As soon as he arrived home, he called his dad to join him in the dining room.

Burnet showed the gifts to his dad and said, “Dad, here are gifts I have received from school for performing well in class, and some are for playing musical instruments such as the violin very well. Dad, before I use this money for anything like buying toys, sweets, and other things, I must take away 50 shillings for God’s tithe. We are taught at church that before we do anything, we are to think about God first, talk to God first, return to God first, and give thanks to God first.” Burnet then emphasized they were taught that life is about putting God first in everything we do.

After the conversation, Burnet rushed to his room and quickly dressed in a white shirt with an embroidered GOD FIRST logo above the shirt pocket. He then pulled out his giving plan bag and placed 50 shillings in the appropriate compartment in his “I return 10% to God” bag, as instructed in Leviticus 27:30. He then placed 30 shillings in the “I give my offerings” compartment in the bag, as instructed in 2 Corinthians 9:7. After doing that Burnet said, “I am ready to worship God happily next Sabbath.”
